Class Teacher: Mr Khan
Welcome!
We are very excited about seeing you all back in school and we can't wait to start our new school year. We have lots of amazing activities and learning planned for you and we hope you enjoy your time in Elm class.
We are operating a one way system for drop off and collection. In the morning, your child will enter school via the main school gate and walk to their classroom. At home time, you can enter school via the main school gate and wait at your child's classroom door. Once children are dismissed, follow the path round to the toy box exit which leads back to Aspen Road.
Teachers and TA's are unable to talk to parents and carers at the classroom door at the end of the day. If you need to discuss any issues, please make an appointment at the school office or send a message via Class Dojo.
Water Bottles
Please can all children bring a drinking bottle with water (no juice) into school everyday. Please put your child's name on the bottle.
We will let you know what days Elm class will be having P.E once this has been confirmed.
P.E kit should include; a plain white T shirt, black/navy shorts, leggings or tracksuit bottoms and black trainers/plimsolls.
If your child wears earrings, please remove these on a PE day. This is to ensure your child's safety whilst taking part in our PE lessons.
Reading in Elm Class
Reading is really important at Snape Wood. We want all children to become confident readers, who enjoy reading for pleasure.
To support your child, please could you read with them at least 3 times a week. Please record your child's reading in their reading diary. Reading diaries will be checked daily so please send them in every day.
Pride points will be awarded to children that read at home.
Behaviour at Snape Wood
In Elm class, we follow the behaviour traffic light system. All children start the day on green. If a child breaks one of our school rules, they are given a reminder and asked to change their behaviour. If the child does not correct their behaviour, we move the child's name to orange. If there is still no improvement, the child's name is moved to red.
Children are given the opportunity to move up the traffic light system at every stage and we encourage children to work their way back up to green. If a child is on red and their behaviour does not improve they are sent for timeout in another classroom.
Red Cards are sent home if a child is on red at the end of the day (because they have not worked off red) or if they display extreme behaviour. If your child brings home a red card, please take this opportunity to talk to your child about their behaviour. Please sign and return the card.
Green Cards are sent home on a Friday to children that have displayed positive behaviour and finished the week without getting a red card. It is an opportunity for both school and parents to celebrate positive behaviour. The children really enjoy receiving green cards and look forward to bringing them home. If you sign and return the cards, children are entered into a prize draw on Monday.
In Elm class we will continue to use Class Dojo to keep you up to date with our learning. Class Dojo is a great way to communicate with the class teacher, receive important news and see your child's achievements.
If you are not already signed up to Class Dojo, let me know and we can get you connected.
Pride Points
At Snape Wood, we believe that every child should feel proud to be a part of our school and so we have introduced PRIDE points. Each letter represents an aspect of our school values:
P - positive attitude
R - respectful
I - inquisitive
D - determination
E - empathy
We will be using Class Dojo in the classroom to record PRIDE points. Children collect points and spend them in the PRIDE point shop.
Headlice
We advise that you regularly check your child's hair for head lice and treat is necessary.
Please put your child's name on all of their uniform, including jumpers and cardigans.
Reading diaries and books should be in school everyday.
Children should not bring toys into school as they may get damaged or lost.
Read together everyday
Spend time talking about what your child is learning at school
Help your child to learn their weekly spellings
Practice times tables
Have fun together
If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please make an appointment at the office or send a message on Class Dojo.
Due to confidentiality, we are unable to speak to parents in public areas.
