Autumn 1 Learning
Here is a collection of images of the learning that we have been doing during Autumn 1.
We explored the book 'The Incredible Book Eating Boy' by Oliver Jeffers as part of our English fictional work. Our non-fiction topic was based around instructions, where we created a cooking video!
Our geography topic was based around villages, towns and cities. We took a trip to Newstead Village to see what life is like when living in a village.

Autumn Term 2 Learning
During the Autumn term, we kick-started our learning in year 3 with some exciting activities. We began our History topic by taking a trip back in time to the Stone Age! We set up caves in the classroom and created our own cave paintings.
We ended our English topic Wisp: A Story of Hope by creating a wish of our dreams for the future and shared these into the dream box!

Welcome back!
We are very excited about welcoming your child into Ash class and we can't wait to start our new school year. We have lots of amazing activities and learning planned and we look forward to helping your child learn and grow.
From September, we are operating a one way system for drop off and collection. In the morning, your child will enter school via the main school gate and walk to their classroom. At home time, you can enter school via the main school gate and wait at your child's classroom door. Once children are dismissed, follow the path round to the toy box exit which leads back to Aspen Road.
Teachers and TA's are unable to talk to parents and carers at the classroom door at the end of the day. If you need to discuss any issues, please make an appointment at the school office or send a message via Class Dojo.
We are very excited about welcoming your child into Maple class and we can't wait to start our new school year. We have lots of amazing activities and learning planned and we look forward to helping your child learn and grow.
- Reading diaries should be in school everyday.
- Pupils should read for at least 20 minutes everyday and record this in their diaries. Your child should be reading at least three times a week at home. The children can record if they have read themselves.
- Reading diaries need to be in school everyday. We will be checking these daily.
- Spellings are tested every Friday.
- The children will have two PE sessions a week. Ash Class PE lessons take place on Thursdays and Fridays.
- Please label your child's uniform, especially cardigans and jumpers.
- Children are tested regularly on their times tables throughout the week, however further practice at home is greatly encouraged. Children can access their 'Timestable Rockstars' accounts from home to help them with individual support.
- We kindly ask that a water bottle is brought to school to ensure your child stays hydrated for working at their best potential!
- Every child has access to fresh, cool water to fill their bottle up. Children are not allowed to bring juice or any other drinks into school (water only please).
In each class, we use Class Dojo to record PRIDE Points. Children can spend their collected points at our PRIDE Points shop.
If you download and sign in to the Class Dojo App, you can see your child's points and get notifications when your child is given them.
If you need a letter to receive your child's Class Dojo code, please just let me know.
Reading
Reading is an important skill for children to master as a young age. Reading can develop a child's understanding of the world around them, inspire possibility and imagination as well as deepen their knowledge. Through reading alone children can improve their skills in almost all academic subjects. You can help your child to achieve this by reading with them or listening to them read for only 20 minutes a day.
Please find below a recommended reading list for children in Year 3. The books on this list have been chosen to challenge and inspire your child to develop further as well as spark a love of reading for fun and enjoyment. The list mainly consists of fiction and poetry books, however if you would like a recommendation for non-fiction books, please do not hesitate to ask.
Enjoy! :-)
We love reading!
PRIDE Points
At Snape Wood, we believe that every child should feel proud to be part of our school and therefore we have PRIDE points.
Each letter represents one of our school values:
Positive Attitude
Respect
Inquisitive
Determination
Empathy
Children are awarded PRIDE points when they have been spotted showing these school values.
Behaviour
At Snape Wood, we use a traffic light system for behaviour:
Green - All children are on green at the beginning of the day.
Orange - If a child breaks one of our school rules, they are given a reminder and asked to change their behaviour. If the child does not correct their behaviour, their name is moved down to orange.
Red - If they still do not improve their behaviour, the child's name is moved down to red. If a child's name is on red and their behaviour does not improve, they will be isolated on a table in the classroom.
Children can move their name back up the traffic light system and we encourage children to work their way back up to green.
Green Cards - These are sent home with your child every Friday, if they have shown positive behaviour throughout the week without moving onto orange or red. This is a chance for both you and us to celebrate their positive behaviour. The children love being given the cards and are excited to take them home. Your child's green card is entered into a prize draw each Monday, if it is brought back into school once you have signed it.
Red Cards - These are sent home with the child if their name is on red at the end of the day or if they have shown extreme behaviour which warrants an instant red card. Please have a conversation with your child about their behaviour if they come home with a red card, and sign and return the card the following morning.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please make an appointment at the office or contact us via Class Dojo.
Due to confidentiality, we are unable to talk to parents in public areas.
Thank you for your support
